Do you believe in miracles? YES! The Palm Beach Autographs 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team Miracle On Ice Deluxe Framed Jersey is one of the most extraordinary pieces of American sports history you will ever own. This stunning USA White #80 jersey bears the authentic signatures of 18 heroes who pulled off the greatest upset in Olympic history - stunning the unbeatable Soviet Union at Lake Placid and going on to win the Gold Medal for the United States of America.
On February 22 1980 a group of amateur college kids coached by Herb Brooks shocked the world. The mighty Soviet Union squad - a team that had won nearly every major international tournament for two decades and had demolished the NHL All-Stars just months earlier - was widely considered invincible. The Americans were 1000-to-1 longshots. But on that Friday night in Lake Placid New York the impossible happened. Al Michaels asked the question the whole world was thinking and the answer rang out across America forever.
This hand-signed framed jersey includes the autographs of the men who made history:
Mike Eruzione (Captain) - The heart and soul of the Miracle squad. Eruzione scored the most famous goal in U.S. hockey history - the go-ahead tally against the Soviets with exactly 10 minutes remaining - and stood on the podium with the Gold Medal around his neck. He never played professional hockey after Lake Placid choosing instead to let the moment stand alone forever. His signature on this jersey carries the weight of that decision.
Jim Craig (Goaltender) - "The Goalie." Craig stopped 36 of 39 Soviet shots in the most pressure-filled game ever played on American ice. After the Gold Medal game he famously skated around the rink draped in an American flag searching for his father in the crowd. Craig posted a .893 save percentage across the entire tournament and backstopped the most improbable championship run in hockey history.
Mark Johnson (Forward) - The quiet assassin and arguably the most skilled player on the roster. The son of legendary Wisconsin coach "Badger Bob" Johnson scored two massive goals against the Soviets including a stunning tally with one second left in the first period that kept the Americans alive. Johnson led the tournament in scoring and went on to a distinguished 11-year NHL career with the Pittsburgh Penguins St. Louis Blues New Jersey Devils and Hartford Whalers.
Neal Broten (Forward) - The Minnesota-born "Nealsy" became one of the greatest American-born players in NHL history after Lake Placid. Broten went on to win the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 1995 and was a three-time NHL All-Star. He notched 289 career NHL goals and 634 assists across 17 NHL seasons - a testament to the talent that was on this roster.
Dave Christian (Forward/Defenseman) - Son of 1960 U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Bill Christian Dave Christian played a critical role in the tournament and went on to a stellar 15-year NHL career recording 340 goals and 433 assists. He played for six NHL franchises including the Washington Capitals Winnipeg Jets and Boston Bruins cementing a legacy that began at Lake Placid.
Ken Morrow (Defenseman) - The only player in history to win an Olympic Gold Medal and a Stanley Cup championship in the same calendar year. After Lake Placid Morrow joined the New York Islanders and won four consecutive Stanley Cups from 1980 to 1983. "Iron Ken" was the anchor of a blue line that helped shut down the most dangerous offense in the world.
Mike Ramsey (Defenseman) - One of the youngest players on the roster Ramsey was just 19 years old at Lake Placid. He went on to a 17-year NHL career with the Buffalo Sabres Pittsburgh Penguins and Detroit Red Wings registering over 1000 games played - a career that all started with a Gold Medal on American ice.
Also signed by: Buzz Schneider - Phil Verchota - John Harrington - Rob McClanahan - Steve Janaszak - Bill Baker - Steve Christoff - Craig Patrick - Dave Silk - Eric Strobel and Mark Wells - every one a Gold Medalist every one a legend.
